Teignmouth & Dawlish Ramblers
NEWS LETTER July.2010
The group now possesses the latest digital mapping application. Amongst other things I can now offer to check, or produce, accurate grid references for all of Dartmoor, Exmoor, and the majority of Devon. If you need a grid reference ( 6 or 10 figure), or would like one checked, ring 01626 863874.
I can also offer for personal use of group members only, a laminated map service. This will comprise of a sheet of A4 130g/m² paper, on which will be printed a high quality 1:25000 scale map of one of most 7 X 5 kilometre areas of Devon, including the Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks. The map will be supplied with a hot laminated cover, completely resistant to even heavy rain.
These will be supplied at cost for 40p. If you would like to use this service, please telephone me on the number above, giving the top left hand co-ordinates of the required area. The map can be supplied in ‘Landscape’ format (Northings 5km by Eastings 7km) or in ‘Portrait format (Eastings 5km by Northings 7km). Please note that this is the only size I can supply at the standard 1:25000 scale.

These have both Eastings and Northings numbered, together with the unique two letter grid reference for each square. In addition there are 45 locations positioned to scale and named. If anyone is interested please email me and I will send the file (jpeg) back as an attachment.

Important Information.
It appears that a more sophisticated criminal is now targeting cars parked in remote areas of Dartmoor.
It is not always apparent that your car has been broken into as windows may all be intact.
Play safe and make sure that your car contains nothing of any value.

IMPORTANT NOTICE.
The ‘Walks discussed’ page of this site is an account of a descent of the Masca Gorge in
Tenerife during a Group holiday there earlier this year.
Everyone who enjoys walking, either challenging or relaxing should make a point of reading
this account.
It describes in detail how a pleasant day out may have the potential to end in tragedy.
Thoughts on a very pleasant day.
from ‘mireman’
How very pleasant it was to attend a superbly planned and executed barbeque organised and run by Malcolm and others on the 17th July. Contrary to the previous day, even the weather was kind for us, with some cloud, but also lots of sunshine!
For many, who like myself no longer actively walk with the group, it was a chance to meet old friends and renew acquaintances. In the very pleasant venue of Malcolm and Hazels’ garden, it was a chance to relax in pleasant familiar company and enjoy an excellent well prepared and cooked meal and a glass of wine.
This expresses my own and I am sure many others thanks for all the hard work and effort in organising and putting on such a successful event, enjoyed I am sure by all who attended.
