A Church, a Nose, a Hound, some Rocks and Becky's Falls

A relaxing coffee break at Hound Tor
On 25 March, the first day of summer time, those of the Teignmouth and Dawlish Ramblers who had remembered to move their clocks on an hour enjoyed one of the best days of the year walking on Dartmoor.

Starting from Manaton Church we took the path up to Hayne Down and visited Bowerman’s Nose, possibly the most iconic rock formation on Dartmoor. After a photo shoot with the author, Stormin’ Norman, demonstrating the early moves of a climb up the rock, we made our way, passing Alpacas and on to Hound Tor where we had a coffee stop taking in the glorious views north over Dartmoor at its best and watching climbers on the rocks.

Then, following a downhill route, we arrived at Becka Brook and followed the track through the woods alongside Becky Falls. Moving higher up the valley we enjoyed lunch in the dappled shade of nearby woods, with the signs of spring showing with buds forming on the trees and shrubs.

After making our way back through Water ad Letchole Plantation we climbed up to Manaton Rocks before arriving back at Manaton Church for our drive home.

It is on days like this when you appreciate the hard work of our team of walk leaders who plan out these superb walks in this glorious corner of Devon.
