Walking in South Devon

Message Board

Unfortunately we have had to change the Evening Walk planned for Wednesday 25th July as the Manager of The Pig and Whistle Pub has refused us permission to park in his car park
Instead the walk is as follows:

Meet 7.0 pm Viaduct Dawlish (GR 964765) for a walk along Lady's Mile to Dawlish Warren returning along the seawall. About 3 miles
Leader Anne Mc

PLEASE NOTE the Walk originally planned for 25th will become a Tea Shop Walk on 1st September - with a different start point (ie the Berry Pomeroy Castle Car park)

Whilst we attempt to cater for  people with different walking abilities by means of Tea Shop Walks, Short Walks and Long Walks,we have a sister organisation, Walking for Heath, that is operated by Ramblers with the help of government funding. This scheme recognises that many mental and physical health conditions benefit greatly from the gentle excercise and social interaction that comes from walking.

Some of their walks are shorter than the ones we organise. Some  involve a gentle stroll followed by tea and cake. Others go farther afield using public transport where bus passes come in handy. They are therefore recommended as a way of getting into walking and building up your strength ready for progression to longer walks with Ramblers if you so wish.

Locally, this scheme is operated by Teignbridge Walk This Way with separate programmes run in Teignmouth  and Dawlish and other local towns.

Full details can be seen on Teignbridge District Council's Website. Click on the blue letters which act as a link to their websites.
